Upper School

The Upper School is comprised of pupils aged 7 to 11 in Key Stage 2 or Years 3 to 6 of the National Curriculum.

In the Upper School the timetable is more structured, with most lessons being taught by specialists, although each class has its own class teacher and a class base, where they will spend some time each day to ensure a good level of pastoral care for all pupils.

Pupils are prepared for competitive entrance exams at 7+ and 8+ (boys only) and 11+ (all Year 6 pupils) according to the senior schools chosen by parents. The Headmaster or Deputy Head will be willing to advise on schools for individual pupils. Extra Curricular After School Clubs play a large part in school life, with a wide variety of activities available to all children from Nursery to Year 6.

There are many sports clubs for all age groups, as well as:

  • Ballet
  • Judo
  • Jazz Dance
  • Drama
  • Orchestra and Choir

There are Cookery and Art clubs for the younger children.

Many trips and visits are organised to support the curriculum, making full use of the abundance of museums, theatres and galleries close by. Each year there is a ski trip to Megève in France, open to all Upper School pupils. In the Summer Term Year 5 and 6 pupils attend a five-day outdoor pursuits excursion and Years 3 and 4 attend team building activity days.
