Term Review
23 December 2011At the end of an extraordinarily busy and successful term we can look back at the many accomplishments of our children and staff with a sense of pride. I am grateful to all the children for working so hard and for the staff who challenge, engage and inspire them. A particular thanks to my senior team, who have worked tirelessly and supportively for the benefit of staff and children alike. In the new year we are rebranding as the Senior Leadership Team to reflect the quality of their impact. In particular I thank Carole, who has come with her wealth of expertise and experience and taken us further on our journey in search of excellence for all.
To our leaving staff we extend a fond farewell. Andrea Vieli has been working as a voluntary TA this term and leaves us to begin her intensive language course next year. We thank her warmly for all she has given to the children. Elenita Quejado is a familiar face to all of us as she has been cheerfully working in the kitchen and dining room for ten years. She is retiring from the school this Christmas and our good wishes and gratitude go to her. Monsieur Pierre leaves us this Christmas also. We thank him for the fun and energy he has brought to French . We know we will miss his cheerful French charm and sense of humour. Sabina Kapralska goes on maternity leave this Christmas and we wish her and her baby well. Michael Waller and his fiancée, Olivia will tie the knot this Christmas. We wish them the happiest of wedding days and look forward to seeing the photos next year.
To all staff and children involved in the Christmas Performances in Early Years, KS1 and 2 a heartfelt thanks. Each group gave their all to their performances and clearly had great fun sharing their music with the parents. Finally a huge congratulations and thanks to the Friends for organising a fabulous Fête last Saturday. The school was positively fizzing with festive fun.
At Christmas time, whatever our faith, the rhythm of the country slows down and allows us, we hope, to be together with our families. The Christian story, where a new family was made in the humblest of surroundings must remind us that what is most important about our time on earth is surely the quality of our relationships with one another, the way we support and care for each other. Sadly, at this special time of year we are bombarded by images of what we ought to think we want to have. It is difficult to explain to children about giving when their minds are being focussed on getting and this is the reason why we chose to show our giving on our Christmas tree without the children receiving a sweet from it when they place their gift.
To all of you who travel to mark this time of year with loved ones elsewhere, I wish you happiness, relaxation and family joy. May you return safely, restored and refreshed. Wishing you all the blessings of this special Christmas season.
