Exhibition Road Pedestrian Tunnel Closure

16 September 2011

Pedestrian tunnel closure

We need to close the tunnel so we can remove the temporary propping that we put in while we constructed the road slabs above. From Monday 19 September until early October the pedestrian tunnel north of the V&A entrance will be closed and for the last week of these works we must close the tunnel to the V&A as well.

We will be laying anti-skid material on Thurloe Place overnight on Monday 19 September. The section of Thurloe Place between Cromwell Place and Cromwell Gardens will be closed while we work.

Next week we will switch northbound traffic to the west side of Exhibition Road (north of Prince Consort Road) so we can complete the central traffic island at Kensington Road and the pavement on the corner of this junction. This will leave just the final traffic signal works at the Exhibition Road /Kensington Road junction to be done. Westminster Zone A residents’ parking spaces will be available on the west side of Exhibition Road once the traffic is switched over.

We will start working on the final traffic signal installation at the junction of Exhibition Road and Cromwell Road on 26 September. Some of this work will require night-time lane closures on the A4. The junction will become operational in its final configuration in mid October once the new straight across crossing and signals have been commissioned.

Details of the traffic orders for the final traffic scheme and road layout are being published today, details are available at www.rbkc.gov.uk/exhibitionroad
